MINOR ARCANA
The suits of the Outsider Tarot are represented by everyday symbols that we see everywhere but often don’t pay much attention to: LIGHTS, BOTTLES, EYES and ROSES. These objects, at once omnipresent and overlooked, offer profound ways to meditate and contemplate the power of each suit. The Outsider Tarot likens each suit to the properties and powers of the four elements:
THE OUTSIDERS
Each Minor Arcana card is represented by an Outsider or a collective of Outsiders that have lived inspiring and influential lives. Some are instantly recognizable, like Nina Simone in the 5 of BOTTLES or Rachel Pollack who appears in the 3 of Bottles along side Eden Gray. Other cards from the Outsider Tarot Minor Arcana represent a kind of Outsider, like the Hacktivist from the 6 of EYES or the Refugee from the 8 of EYES.
THE MINORS ARE MAJOR!
I like to think of major and Minor Arcana as cause and effect, inextricably linked. The Major Arcana represent energy that compels us to act, while the Minor Arcana give us a glimpse of a response. In essence, the minors represent our day-to-day lives, the results of our actions. Like the ratio of majors to minors in the Tarot deck itself (22 to 56), the minors are much more present in our everyday readings, and they have more nuanced information and advice to offer us on a day-to-day basis. For this reason, I started my work on the Outsider Tarot with the minors.
SYMBOLS & GLYPHS
